Modern Salon Honors Federico Beauty Institute for its 'Excellence in Education'

Each year, Modern Salon recognizes superior beauty schools with motives to share tales about innovative and inspiring accomplishments. This year, the magazine gave Federico Beauty Institute an honor for the institute's "Excellence in Education," which is part of the advanced education and alumni programs.

Federico Beauty Institute considers it an honor to have received an "Excellence in Education" from Modern Salon. Federico Beauty Institute constantly takes education further by offering advanced cosmetology classes, advanced aesthetics classes, gifted guest speakers, and the study abroad program.

"This is an excellent achievement," Adam Federico stated. "This allows the institute to understand that it is accomplishing its purpose and doing this in an excellent manner."

Adam Federico is the leader of the advanced education program for students. Additionally, Mr. Federico is the Creative Director at Federico Beauty Institute and the proprietor of AJF Salon. He asks students to meet with him and his staff at AJF Salon, located in downtown Sacramento, once every two months to participate in advanced classes focusing on cutting and coloring hair. Cosmetology students learn detailed methods on how to cut and color hair in a small group setting.

"Students have the opportunities to view things in new and different ways. They are finding jobs in real beauty salons, instead of only learning in school. It's their first time outside of the school world and they see the end of the road ahead." Adam said that this experience is extremely inspiring for them.

Additionally, Students of Aesthetics have options of learning from advanced classes. Students can consider earning the microdermabrasion certification; they will become trained on the use of microdermabrasion equipment to erase the signs of aging, like fine lines, age spots, and damage caused by acne.

Even though Federico Beauty Institute has achieved recognition for its excellence in education, there are plans to make even more advances within the program. The school is presently working on a project to add an additional 20,000 square feet. An education room for 16 advanced students is part of the expansion project. Adam's plan is to instruct advanced students each week, rather than every two months, in the new addition.

Federico Beauty Institute students and graduate students also receive benefits when they receive tips from a few of the most well-known persons within the field of beauty. During the year, the school features guest artists during the year who talk about their experience working in the industry and show the students a range of cutting edge techniques. During the month of September, hundreds of students and graduate students gathered at the annual school meeting for the Salon Symposium, where Nick Arrojo and Gerard Scarpaci from ARROJO Hair (celebrity hairstylists) and Gerard Hoher (master colorist) offered live demonstrations. In 2011, Brenton Lee, Ronnie Stam, and Jami Gierloff were some of the other guest instructors.

Adam states that they are "constantly seeking out the best talent that will be best utilized by our students."

Additionally, students who attend Federico Beauty Institute have chances to receive knowledge from teachers around the world. In 2011, students visited several countries, including France, Belgium, and Italy, as part of the foreign learning program known as the Pivot Point International program. The students were able to study new trends and techniques from teachers in other countries, and they also visited these countries as though they were travelers.
