Adam Federico: A Triple Threat in the Beauty World Salon Manager, Hair Stylist and Educator
If Adam Federico were an actor, he'd be on Broadway or the London stage. Why? Because he possesses a combination of valued talents in his field. Like the actor who can sing, dance, and act, Adam Federico can do it all. He is a Triple Threat in the Beauty World! Adam is skilled as a Salon Manager, a Hair Stylist and an Educator.
In the beauty business, Adam Federico stands tall as a rare Triple Threat. He's the owner/manager, Artistic Director and Educator at the well-known AJF Salon in Sacramento, California. At the third-generation, family-run Federico Beauty Institute, Adam holds the position of Creative Director.
Adam would have acquired a Master's Degree, possibly even a double Master's, if he had followed the traditional educational path of attending a four-year college.
After he graduated from Federico Beauty Institute and obtained his Cosmetology license, Adam moved to southern California for nearly three years to improve the talent and ability required to become an "international" stylist at a high-end salon. Adam took advantage of several year-long Assistant Programs while in Los Angeles, to learn creative and leading-edge cutting and coloring techniques from top-notch beauty professionals. By learning how to build a loyal clientele and providing outstanding customer service, Adam obtained "real-world" experience in the retail sphere of the business.
Adam returned to Sacramento in the late 1990's and began teaching at the Institute. The AJF Salon quickly opened for business in 2000, and in spite of the great responsibility and the time it takes to begin a retail business, Adam continued to teach advanced hair cutting and coloring methods at the Institute. The advanced, extra-curricular courses are available to just the eight (8) top students at the time. These the special advanced classes cannot be found within the Cosmetology curriculum. In addition to having finished their freshman classes, to become eligible for these advanced classes requires students to have good attendance and grades, as well as being in good standing at the Institute.
Adam obviously excelled in the Assistant Programs, because from 2000 to 2005 he was selected as a platform artist by Sebastian International, just one of 32 stylists in the world selected to represent Sebastian International in Japan and France.
An additional aspect of Adam's teaching responsibilities is his work with instructor trainees for three months to ensure they have the high level skills required of instructors employed by Federico Beauty Institute.
As Creative Director at the Institute, Adam will soon put together a student artistic team. In this endeavor, he will assist the team in creating seasonal collections, crafting hair shows and "trendcasting" - what's in the future for hairstyles and beauty techniques.
All of Adam's stylists at AJF Salon are graduates of Federico Beauty Institute. If you ask Adam about it, he will tell you that Federico graduates are the only Cosmetologists he hires. Stylists come straight from graduation to the Institute to follow in Adam's footsteps - to become an Assistant - to Adam.
He says that "in the previous 10 years, approximately 98% of my stylists graduated from the Federico Beauty Institute." Looking over his busy schedule, Adam estimates that he uses 80% of his time supervising the Salon and providing hair styling services to his clientele. He devotes about 20% of his time to working with instructor trainees and students to help them be successful.
Adam considers the type of employment he might have obtained if his third generation ancestry hadn't been involved in the beauty industry. James Federico, Adam's grandfather , founded the Institute in 1946. He says that music was his passion when he was growing up. "Beauty school was my back-up career, in case music didn't pan out. After I graduated from Federico, beauty replaced music as my true passion. I always knew I wanted to work in the field of creative arts, as a musician or chef. I always wanted to work with my hands."
