Salon Symposium
Federico Beauty Institute works hard to offer students the chance to socialize with professional stylists at networking events. Federico believes that students should learn in the classroom, as well as from people who are employed in the business daily. Sacramento's top beauty experts were gathered together on November 5, 2009, for Federico's Salon Symposium.
Professionals representing Salon B, Rowena and Takashi, and AJF Salon participated in the Salon Symposium program. All of the salons showed live demonstrations for students. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions about styling methods, socialize with the stylists, and learn information about each salon. This kind of networking occasion is very worthwhile and lets students communicate with potential employers in a relaxed education environment.
Rowena, from Rowena and Takashi, did the first demonstration of the night. She revealed a show piece from the BIA International Hair and Fashion Expo using a salon model. Rowena, a former Vidal Sassoon teacher, used Vidal Sassoon techniques in her performance.
Beela Shaikh gave a second demonstration from Rowena and Takashi. Beela graduated from Federico Beauty Institute, and is the salon's makeup director. She used a second salon model to show runway and high fashion makeup.
"It's very special for students to meet successful Federico graduates who are working in the beauty field. Since Beela came here, it actually showed the wonderful things students can accomplish with a Federico education," stated Jeremy Federico, the president of the school.
Salon B gave the second demonstration. A presentation about the salon for potential employees was given by Kathleen Clark, owner and Avery, a stylist. They talked about how salons are run, including payment structures. This data was important for students who will soon be seeking out new jobs. Then Avery picked Jen Steffens, a Federico student out of the audience, and used her to show hair cutting methods.
The grand finale, involving some Federico students, was presented by AJF Salon. Caitlyn, a stylist, demonstrated round brushing. She talked about the different techniques that you can do with a round brush. They demonstrated to those in attendance the way to achieve sexy, relaxed curls using just a round brush and dryer. While this was being demonstrated, students were welcomed on the stage to join in and try the techniques shown by Caitlyn.
Federico Beauty Institute is always on the lookout for fresh ways to link pupils with experts in the beauty field. The most recent project, Federico's Salon Network, debuted as part of the Salon Symposium date.
