Students Expand Their Education Through Community Involvement
The Federico Beauty Institute cares about helping the community. These events can help people learn life lessons and get an education, all while getting credits for graduation.
Federico Beauty Institute students raised a lot of money for charity in 2011. Students regularly donate to their community and volunteer their time at many events. The Student Council selected the events and charities. They were responsible for choosing organizations to donate their time to.
The students of Federico Beauty Institute were involved in the Manicures for a Cure fundraiser held at the Davis campus of the University of California. Students spent the day giving manicures, giving their proceeds to St. Jude's Hospital towards working to cure pediatric cancer.
There was a mobile blood drive at the Federico Beauty Institute. The blood drive raised 32 pints of bloods from a total of 46 registered donors.
Students of cosmetology and esthetics volunteered at the Sacramento State University Styles of Paradise charity show, by fixing the models makeup and hair. The show featured designs of student designers in Sacramento. The money made was given to the Autism Center for Excellence.
Federico Beauty Institute students gave 200 haircuts to homeless and low income people through Project Homeless Connect. They also gave haircuts to foster families in June at the Lilliput Health and Wellness Fair and homeless veterans in September at the Vietnam Stand Down festival.
Many Federico Beauty Institute students walked in the Making Strides against Breast Cancer 5k event. The Federico Institute's Team Anne, in honor of Anne Federico who passed away from breast cancer, was one of the top fundraising teams at the event.
Besides all the monthly activities, Federico Beauty Institute also worked with Mustard Seed Children's Home as well as WEAVE. The salon opened its doors to women and children in need for free services such as haircuts.
